Wounded Soldiers & Bloody Corpse

“The good soldier of Jesus Christ must not expect to find ease in this world: it is a battlefield. Neither must he reckon upon the friendship of the world; for that would be enmity against God. His occupation is war. The spotless purity of truth must always be at war with the blackness of heresy and lies.” – C.H. Spurgeon

As a result of my 47 years as a believer and my 37 years in ministry, I have come to the following conclusion…

Many Christians (perhaps most) are thrilled to have their eternal “fire insurance,” but would prefer to remain safely “behind the lines” rather than to engage in true spiritual warfare. Why is that? Well, spiritual warfare is difficult, dangerous, and often deadly… and the battlefield is strewn with wounded soldiers and bloody corpses.

Sounds pretty unappetizing, right? And so, far too many believers opt to keep their heads down and wait for either Christ to return or God to call them home.

To me, that kind of rationale simply doesn’t equate nor is it an option. It is also, at least IMHO, an act of cowardice. After all, Jesus was mocked, beaten, and crucified for us. How can we not offer Him our bodies and our very lives in return?

I guess that’s why I spent 35 years in prison ministry, going into some of the most dangerous locations in North America and Africa. I call those maximum-security institutions “Satan’s strongholds,” because he has done everything in his power to destroy those men and women with his lies… and the last thing he wants is a bunch of Christians infringing on his turf and telling them the truth. It is also why one of the taglines we have adopted at Risk Takers for Christ is “moving believers from the sidelines to the front lines.”

I don’t know about you, but there is only one place on earth I want to be: on the front lines, because that is where the action is!

“The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19 (BSB)
