“You will never find true faith unaccompanied by true godliness; on the other hand, you will never discover a truly holy life that does not have at its root a living faith relying upon the righteousness of Christ.” – C.H. Spurgeon
A few days ago, I wrote about things that just naturally go together. Here are some new ones…
Bacon and eggs… cake and ice cream… chicken and waffles (if you’re from the South).
Burns and Allen… Martin and Lewis… Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (if you grew up in the 30s, 40’s and 50’s).
Batman and Robin… the Lone Ranger and Tonto (or Silver)… Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.
Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, known as the “M&M Boys”… Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier… Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain.
The list goes on and on, whether it’s food, entertainment, or sports. In fact, some things aren’t just better together, they are virtually inseparable.
That’s the point Charles Spurgeon is making in today’s quote about the link between faith and godliness, holiness, and righteousness. Here is how he describes it…
“We must have faith, for this is the foundation; we must have holiness of life, for this is the superstructure. Let faith and life be put together, and like the two supports of an archway, they will make our devotion endure.”
Kinda like milk and cookies… or Bogie and Bacall… or well, you get the idea.
“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.” I Corinthians 13:13 (BSB)
