Praise God for Golf Carts

“You will see God’s glory manifested in your limp. Embrace your weakness so that His strength will be revealed through you.” – Os Hillman

Before July 2021, I was one of the fittest 61-year-olds you’d ever met.

Believe it or not, I could run up and down an outdoor basketball court in 95-degree heat, playing against a team of inmates 40 years younger than me… and still score as many as 18 points per game. Followed by another game a few minutes later and a third (and possibly fourth) game later that same day.

Then came Covid-19…

Today, my basketball playing is mostly limited to half-court games in an air-conditioned gym. Not only that but bending down can make me light-lighted and lifting heavy objects leaves me gasping for air.

In other words, I now “walk with a limp,” just like Jacob did after he wrestled with a Man (probably a pre-incarnate Jesus Christ) for an entire night. And just like Jacob, my limp – which is more like a racing heart and shortness of breath – is a constant reminder that I am dependent on God for everything.

OK, so maybe I can’t keep up with prisoners in their teens and twenties anymore, but I can still write, preach, and pray. And yes, I can still play up to 100 holes of golf in a single day to raise money for a good cause.

Praise God for motorized carts!

As we age, we face a choice: complain about our failing health and the things we can no longer do… or praise God for our remaining health and the things we can still do. The decision we make – and the attitude we adopt – makes all the difference. So choose wisely!

“So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: ‘For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.” Genesis 32:30 (NKJV)

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10 (NKJV)
