Paul Anka & Frank Sinatra Got It Wrong

“Reflect upon your present blessings – of which every man has many – not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” – Charles Dickens

Below are selected lyrics to “My Way,” as composed by Paul Anka and sung by Frank Sinatra, along with God’s response from His Word (in italics)…

And now, the end is near, and so I face the final curtain…

“And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment." (Hebrews 9:27)

I traveled each and ev’ry highway…

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.” Matthew 7:16

Regrets, I’ve had a few; but then again, too few to mention…

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” James 5:16

I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway…

“A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9

And may I say, not in a shy way…

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” I Peter 5:5

Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way…

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12

To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels…

“…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” Philippians 2:10

The record shows I took the blows…

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
