Love in Any Language... Straight from the Heart

“The object of all true preaching is the heart: we aim at divorcing the heart from sin and wedding it to Christ.” – C.H. Spurgeon
Aside from the obvious application to marriage, the word “divorce” means “to legally dissolve, to sever, or to make and keep separate.” Meanwhile, the word “wed” from which we get the word “wedding” is defined as “to unite, to place in close or intimate association, and to link by custom or commitment.”
With those clarifications in mind, Spurgeon’s quote makes a lot more sense – and takes on a much deeper meaning – doesn’t it?
My friend, God doesn’t want just part of you, He wants all of you… starting with your heart. After all, Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 15, “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.”
Likewise, in Ezekiel 36:26, God makes a promise that a cardiologist would just love. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
One last Bible passage about the heart and I’ll let you go for today. It comes from Jesus, when He was asked what the greatest commandment was. “Jesus replied, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” (Matthew 22:37-38, NLT)
