I'm In the Lord's Army... YES SIR!

“As officers in Christ’s army, we are the special target of the hostility of men and devils; they watch for our faltering and work to trip us at the heels.” – C.H. Spurgeon

When our kids were young, they attended Vacation Bible School every summer. Now that they have children of their own, they see that the older ones attend VBS regularly.

One of the songs that our kids learned – and that is still taught to young people today – is “I’m In the Lord’s Army.” It goes like this…

I may never march in the infantry
Ride in the cavalry
Shoot the artillery
I may never fly o’er the enemy
But I’m in the Lord’s army!
Yes Sir!

I’m in the Lord’s army!
Yes sir!
I’m in the Lord’s army!
Yes sir!

The verse is then repeated and, as you can imagine, there are hand motions that go along with the song including a salute, firing an imaginary gun, and flying.

Going back even further in time, one of the first songs I remember hearing sung in church was “Onward Christian Soldiers.” As a boy whose heroes included Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, and a host of other Revolutionary and Civil War generals, that song came alive in my childish imagination.

My friend, whether you are young or old, God is looking for recruits to serve in His army. Have you enlisted? If not, I encourage you to visit a recruitment station (otherwise known as a church) and sign up today!

“And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.” Revelation 19:14 (NKJV)

- Rev. Dale M. Glading, President
