How to Get a Natural High
Wednesday, October 21, 2026
“If you do not experience God’s love at a heart level, you will be vulnerable to meeting your needs in other ways. This allows the enemy to establish a foothold in your heart that will affect your relationship with God. Beware of meeting your needs outside of God and opening a door of darkness that can infiltrate your heart. It begins with a simple thought that can lead to an action and ultimately a habit that is hard to break. Let Him be your source for all of your physical and emotional needs.” – Os Hillman
80% of America’s nearly 2 million prisoners are incarcerated for drug-related crimes.
Drug possession…
Drug dealing…
Committing a crime under the influence of drugs…
Committing a crime to get money to buy drugs…
That’s 1.6 million prisoners trying to fill the emptiness in their lives with an artificial substance. I wonder how many people “on the streets” are trying to do the same thing?
Well, The National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics estimates that among Americans ages 12 and over, 47.7 million are currently illegal drug users (used within the last 30 days). Meanwhile, 70.5 million or 24.9% of people in that same age range have used illegal drugs or misused prescription drugs within the last year. And 145.1 million Americans 12 and over have illicitly used drugs in their lifetime.
Sounds like a lot of desperately lost and lonely people to me.
Now add in all the people trying to fill that hole in their heart and that vacuum in their soul with sex, money, their job, their spouse, or power and position. It’s an exercise in futility because only Jesus can provide the answer to all of life’s questions because He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Jesus promises abundant life on earth (John 10:10) and eternal life in heaven (John 3:16). Now that’s what I call a getting a “natural high”!
“And my God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (BSB)
