How to Become a Millionaire

“Jesus does not ask that we care for the less fortunate. He demands it.” – Katie Davis Majors

You are a millionaire!

Steve Martin used to tell a joke that went like this. “I have discovered the secret to becoming a millionaire. First, get yourself a million dollars.”

Seriously, no matter how much – or how little – you have in your bank account, you are a millionaire compared to the vast majority of people in the world. Do you have a roof over your head and food on your table, let alone a stocked pantry and a full refrigerator? How about clothes, not only on your back, but in your bureau and/or closet?

Does your house (or in my case, RV) have running water, electricity, and air conditioning? Until 100 years ago, indoor plumbing was considered a luxury… as was refrigeration. If you have both, along with a TV, a cell phone, and the other accoutrements that are generally associated with living in 21st century America, you are indeed rich by the world’s standards.

On top of that, if you are a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, you have untold spiritual riches on earth and a heavenly inheritance awaiting you. After all, your Heavenly Father owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and your Savior has promised you both an abundant life here (John 10:10) and an eternal one in glory (John 3:16).

So, and I am directing this question to me first and foremost, why are you so stingy? Why not share your physical and spiritual blessings with others, especially the less fortunate, instead of hoarding them for yourself?

I think I need to repent… and be more generous. How about you?

“Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more than all the others into the treasury. For they all contributed out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.” Mark 12:43-44 (BSB)
