“At its root, this is what faith is. It is not believing in God. It’s believing God.” – R.C. Sproul

If you stop and ask the average American on the street, he will probably tell you that he or she believes in God. However, it may not be the biblical God revealed to us in the Old and New Testament, but rather an all-knowing and all-powerful Supreme Being of their own creation and liking.

And therein lies the rub, so to speak…

You see, it is one thing to say that we believe in God, no matter how we choose to define Him. But it is another thing entirely to say that we believe Him… period. No questions asked, no answers needed. We… simply… believe… Him.

When He says that all men are sinners, we believe Him. When He says that our sin separates us from Him, we believe Him again. When He says that the only way to heaven is to repent of our sins and to trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we accept that at face value and act on it accordingly.

Only two genders, male and female… we believe Him. Marriage is the union of one man and one woman, preferably for life… we accept that, too. Heaven is real, but so is hell and Satan… yep, again. Jesus is coming back soon… absolutely!

Where we get into trouble is when we try to create a small-g god in our own image and likeness instead of believing in the One True God, in whose image and likeness we are made. What He says, goes… end of story.

And yes, end of devotional, too.

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.” Job 38:4 (NKJV)

“But now, O LORD, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and all we are the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8 (NKJV)
