Granny Clampett's Surefire Cure for the Common Cold

“Sinners are perishing for lack of knowledge; he who loiters may find his shoes red with the blood of souls.” – C.H. Spurgeon

One of my favorite Beverly Hillbillies episodes features Granny and her alleged cure for the common cold. When Mr. Drysdale, the forever scheming banker, hears about Granny’s remedy, he envisions a financial windfall and concocts a way to market it.

However, much to Mr. Drysdale’s dismay, he eventually learns the truth about Granny’s surefire cure and all his dreams of untold wealth are shattered. “Get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids, and in a week to 10 days, you’re as good as new” Jed Clampett tells the crestfallen banker.

Well, what did you expect from an M.D. (mountain doctor), right?

My friend, you and I may not have a medical degree or a theological one for that matter, but we possess something far more valuable: the cure for the world’s sin disease. Shame on us if we keep it to ourselves or try to market it for our own personal gain. Instead, we should “shout it from the rooftops” and share it with every lost sinner with whom we come in contact.

Here is that spiritual remedy, as prescribed by “Dr. Paul the Apostle” in Romans 10:9-10…

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

- Rev. Dale M. Glading, President
