Go Stand In the Corner

“The answer to your problem, however great, is as near as your Bible, as simple as first-grade arithmetic, and as real as your heartbeat.” – Billy Graham

Math was never my forte, but I can distinctly remember being proficient enough at first grade arithmetic that my teacher occasionally asked me to help other students with an assignment once I had successfully completed mine. I also remember having to stand in the corner for acting out when Miss Metzger briefly left the classroom before returning via a side door… but that’s a story for another day (or maybe not).

The point remains that you don’t need to be a math whiz – or possess an IQ that would qualify you for membership in Mensa – to understand and properly apply the Bible. In fact, it’s most important truths are so simple that Jesus said a child could comprehend and follow them (see Matthew 18:2-4).

I guess that’s a good thing because after earning a rare C in Algebra II in 10th grade, I never took another math class until one semester of Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus in college. Not only that, but a required Statistics class is what drove me out of graduate school… and into full-time ministry.

“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.” I Corinthians 1:27 (NKJV)

- Rev. Dale M. Glading, President

P.S. In case you’re wondering what some of those simple truths are, here are just a few: God loves you, but you are a sinner and your sin separates you from Him. Thankfully, He has provided a way (actually, the only Way) for you to be reconciled to Him by sending His Son Jesus to live a perfect life and die on the cross in your place. If you confess and repent of your sins and turn to Jesus in faith by trusting Him as your Savior, you will be forgiven. Best of all, when you die, you will spend eternity with God in a perfect place called heaven.
