Could You Repeat That, Please?

“Jesus was heard in His deepest trial; my soul, you shall be heard also.” – C.H. Spurgeon

“Well???”

I knew that Deanna had asked me a question, because I saw her lips move and could tell that she was waiting for my response. When it didn’t come, she followed up with a second question – “Well?” – followed by a third. “You didn’t hear what I said, did you?”

Obviously not. You see, since contracting Covid in 2021, the hearing loss I had in my right ear has worsened rather dramatically. So much so, as a matter of fact, that I try to situate myself to the right of people so I can hear them in my left (or good) ear.

As they say, old age isn’t for sissies!

Of course, I really have nothing to complain about because – despite my arthritic knees – my body is in relatively good shape. Sure, Covid did a real number on my heart and lungs, but even they have improved substantially. I doubt whether I’ll ever be able to run up and down a basketball court again, especially an outdoor one on a hot and humid Florida day, but there are enough sports that I can still play with a degree of proficiency that I’m counting my blessings instead of my handicaps.

Thank God that when you and I talk to God in prayer, He hears us loud and clear. God doesn’t have a hearing loss (or arthritic knees) and so, the quietest prayer echoes throughout His throne room. So do silent ones… or ones that are uttered on our behalf by the Holy Spirit when we are too troubled to pray (Romans 8:26).

Gotta go now, because I just saw Deanna’s lips move again!

“Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.” Psalm 4:1 (NKJV)

“He who planted the ear, shall He not hear?” Psalm 94:9 (NKJV)
