Coming Soon: Christ's Coronation

“Whenever you are praying for the kingdom of Christ, let your eyes behold the dawning of the blessed day that draws near, when the Crucified will receive His coronation in the place where men rejected Him.” – C.H. Spurgeon

Throughout history, there have been some very memorable coronations. Here are just a few…

Charlemagne, King of the Franks, was crowned Emperor of the Romans by Pope Leo III on Christmas Day, December 25, 800, at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. This event solidified his control over Western Europe and established the precedent of papal authority in legitimizing secular rulers.

Napoleon Bonaparte was crowned Emperor of the French on December 2, 1804, at Notre-Dame de Paris in the presence of Pope Pius VII. After some prolonged negotiations, the French Senate had proclaimed him Emperor Napoleon I on May 18th of that year.

The coronation of Elizabeth II as queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms took place on June 2, 1953, at Westminster Abbey in London. Queen Elizabeth II had ascended to the throne on February 6th following the death of her father, King George VI. She reigned for 70 years and 214 days, the longest of any British monarch, the second-longest of any sovereign state, and the longest of any queen regnant in history.

Upon assuming the throne, Elizabeth II issued the following statement… “Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust.”

When Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022, her eldest son became King Charles III. His official coronation took place on May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey.

The coronations of earthly monarchs are sights to behold, filled with pomp and pageantry. However, all of them will pale in comparison to the day when Jesus Christ will be declared King of Kings and Lord of Lords and will begin His 1,000-year reign of the world from His throne in Jerusalem.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait!

“And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:16 (NKJV)

“And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.” Revelation 20:4b (NKJV)
