Aunt Wilden's Spaghetti Sauce Recipe

“I will not believe that you have tasted of the honey of the Gospel if you can eat it all yourself. True grace puts an end to all spiritual monopoly.” – C.H. Spurgeon

Deanna makes the best homemade spaghetti sauce I’ve ever tasted. If she poured it over a piece of cardboard, I’m sure it would be delicious, but over a plate of pasta it is “to die for.”

Recently, she made a big batch of her sauce, which follows a recipe passed down to her by her Aunt Wildena. I was looking forward to multiple servings of pasta – maybe spaghetti one night, linguini the next, fettuccini another, and penne or angel hair still another. But lo and behold, a couple from our church who are snowbirds was returning from their winter home in Michigan and Deanna thought it would be a nice housewarming gift to leave a large container of her sauce in their refrigerator. That way, they would have a homecooked meal waiting for them on their first day back in Florida.

As you can imagine, the couple was thrilled by Deanna’s kind gesture and enjoyed her homemade sauce immensely. And yes, I couldn’t have been prouder of my wife whose servant’s heart seems to grow bigger every year.

The Gospel message is very similar in that once you have heard it and taken it to heart, you can’t help but want to share it with others. Andrew, having met Jesus, immediately sought out his brother Peter to tell him about his encounter. Just imagine where we’d be today if Andrew had kept that Good News to himself.

I know two things for sure: I wouldn’t be preaching through Peter’s Epistles at church the way I have for the past several months. I also know that before too long, Deanna will be back in the kitchen making another batch of her delicious sauce!

“Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard John’s testimony and followed Jesus. He first found his brother Simon and told him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (which is translated as Christ).” John 1:40-41 (BSB)

“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” Psalm 34:8 (ESV)
