A Spiritual Laser Show of Epic Proportions

“The darker the night, the brighter the stars; the deeper the grief, the closer is God!” – Fyodor Dostoyevsky
I have used – perhaps overused – this illustration before, but something tells me it’s worth repeating because it fits today’s quote and its spiritual application so well.
Growing up in South Jersey, just a stone’s throw from the bright lights of Center City Philadelphia, I rarely saw more than a dozen stars in the nighttime sky. Simply put, the ambient light emanating from street lights, billboards, storefronts, and office buildings made it impossible to see much more than the moon, Venus, Mars, and a constellation or two. Orion and Cassiopeia were my favorites.
However, when I met Deanna and started courting her in Fulton County, Pennsylvania – where livestock are more plentiful than people – I was blown away by the nightly celestial lightshow. It seemed as if the entire sky was one interconnected star as tens of thousands of heavenly bodies linked arms.
What made the difference between the ho-hum nighttime displays in the Philly burbs and the luminescence of south-central PA? The sheer blackness of the sky in Needmore and Big Cove Tannery compared to the dull gray overhead in Moorestown and Marlton.
My friend, you may be going through a dark time in your life right now… and it may seem like the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel is a train heading in your direction at warp speed. But let me correct that perspective, because sometimes it is impossible to see beyond your current circumstances.
Jesus, the Light of the world (see John 1), loves you more than you can possibly know, grasp, or comprehend. And, in the midst of the near-total darkness you are presently experiencing, He is able to shine so brightly that you will soon think it is high noon.
Trust Him… and get ready to enjoy a spiritual laser show of epic proportions!
“That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.” John 1:9 (NKJV)
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3 (NKJV)
“The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.” Revelation 21:23 (NKJV)
