A Late Night Trip to the ER

“God’s Spirit does deep work in times of great trial.” – Os Hillman

I don’t know if it qualifies as a “time of great trial,” but I had yet another severe vertigo attack last night relating to my Meniere’s disease. It hit me around 8:30 PM while Deanna and I were watching TV and within a few minutes, I was experiencing extreme nausea. That precipitated almost eight hours of non-stop vomiting…UGH!

By 2:00 AM, I had had enough and asked Deanna to take me to the emergency room. She called my son Chris, who lives about 10 minutes away, to help load me into our car for the short trip to the ER. His lovely bride Rachael came along to assist as needed and to provide moral support and prayers.

Thanks to an IV solution containing multiple drugs, the vomiting finally stopped, and I was discharged around 5:30 AM. I slept until 11:30 AM, ate a few bites, typed this devotional message, and am heading back to bed shortly. Hopefully, I will have enough energy to wash my face and change my clothes before nodding off again.

In the midst of this trial, I am grateful for a loving wife who only got about two hours sleep before she had to babysit today. Likewise, I am thankful that Chris and Rachael live close by and were willing to come to my aid on such short notice. The doctors and nurses who helped me through this latest health crisis also deserve a lot of credit.

Most of all, I am thankful that Jesus – who promised to never leave nor forsake us – was with me every step of the way. I don’t know how people get through the good days… let alone the bad ones… without Him.

Your prayers are appreciated!

“That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10 (BSB)
