I Hate Cancer

Have you ever lost a close friend or relative to cancer? I imagine that everyone has. My maternal grandfather, Edward R. MacDowell, Sr., died of colon cancer at the relatively tender age of 65. The same insidious disease took the life of my best childhood friend, John Miller, when he was even younger. John was only 51 years, seven months, and six days old when he took his last breath on earth and his first one in heaven… leaving behind a grieving wife and three children.
One of my spiritual mentors, Larry Lufburrow, also died from cancer in 2009 as did my good friend and co-laborer for Christ, Thomas Griffin, earlier this year. Add a great-uncle, Deanna’s aunt and paternal grandfather, and various other friends and family members and you can see why – just like you – I hate cancer with a passion.
Wickedness, otherwise known as sin, cost Jesus Christ His very life. Not His sin, mind you, but ours. Yours and mine. And so, shouldn’t we hate sin even more than we do cancer or some other deadly disease because of what it did to our Savior and Lord?
